Most people know Jordan by the magical
ancient Nabataean city of Petra. The Nabataean city of Petra is
definitely one of the most popular and spectacular parts of the
Middle East. It has sights that visitors won't want to miss.
Jordan has so much for visitors to see such as ruined Roman
cities, Crusader castles, desert citadels and many biblical
sites that are considered very powerful. Some of these sites
include the brook where Jesus was baptised, the fortress where
Herod beheaded John the Baptist, and the mountain top where
Moses cast eyes on what is called the Promise Land. Of course
Biblical sites are not the only thing to see in Jordan, there
are many other sites as well along with many men that walk
around in full flowing robes that lead herds of livestock across
the desert. The capital of Jordan is Amman which is a very
modern and culturally diverse Arab city. Jordan also has some of
the most incredible adventures that await visitors and the most
beautiful backdrop.
Jordan has a range of red desert sands
of Wadi Rum and beautiful blues of the coral filled Gulf of
Aqaba as well as the rich palm filled wadis. Everyone in Jordan
welcomes all guests and visitors from all over the world with
open arms. Jordanians are very passionate and caring people who
are also very proud of their country. Jordan evolved out of the
ruins of WWII and can claim to be the host of some of the oldest
civilizations in the world. It has always been on the outside of
the region but has always had the great early civilizations pass
through it due to its strategic position. There were many who
fought in Jordan and left their rich cultural influences behind
such as the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans,
Arabs, Turks, and others.
The climate in Jordan is decided mostly by the
altitude with the lowest areas consisting of the Jordan Valley and
Gulf of Aqaba which suffer from some of the worse summer heat. Then
in the higher central and northern areas it gets very cold in the
winter months which are November to February. The best time to visit
Jordan is usually in the spring months which are March to May as
well as autumn from September to November. These are the best months
to visit climate wise so the day time temperature isn't so extreme.
Over all April is probably the best month to visit due to the warm
weather and blooming flowers.

The Montreal Crusader Castle is located
in Jordan and was originally built in 1115 by Baldwin I of
Jerusalem. The castle was built on a hill on the plains of Edom
and was on the same routes as the pilgrimage and caravan routes
that start in Syria and go to Arabia. The location of the castle
allowed Baldwin to be in control of the commerce area which
meant pilgrims and merchants needed permission to be bale to
travel past it. The castle stayed property of the royal family
of the King of Jerusalem until 1142, after 1142 it became part
of the Lordship of Qultrejordain. The castle has never been
fully excavated but they do know there was a set of three walls
that partially remain. today the castle is investigated by an
Italian archaeological team from the University of Florence.
Azraq is known as the marshy wetland
reserve, Azraq in turn means "blue" in Arabic. In the 1980's
water pumping started but before that the oasis presented "a
sparkling blue jewel" located in the desert. There was water
flowing under the ground from Jebel Druze in Syria and when it
surfaced people thought of it as a marsh. In the towns of Iribid
and Amman took in a lot of the water from here and in 1994 the
marsh was destroyed. Then more water was found in the aquifer of
Dessieh and there is water being pumped back into the marsh. The
marsh has been restored and more than 160 species of birds have
returned to the wetland. There are now boardwalks and bird hives
that have been built for visitors to enjoy the marsh that is
located right in the heart of the desert.
